The 2018 Governor's School Safety Conference was held on November 13th, at the Double Tree Hotel in Burlington. Over 300 attendees participated in the day-long training which was designed to provide participants of the best and promising practices in school safety and emergency preparedness. DPS Commissioner Anderson provided opening remarks and introduced Christina Nolan, US District Attorney for Vermont, as well as FBI Assistant Director Kerry L. Sleeper. Assistant Director Sleep offered the Keynote Speech. Assistant Director Sleeper is a former Vermont State Police Lieutenant and DPS Commissioner. The conference provided educational tracks including but not limited to: Developing a School Resource Officer Program, lessons learned from Fair Haven, teen suicide, school fire safety, emergency operation plan development for schools and resources available for school communities throughout Vermont.
