The Vermont School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Vermont School Crisis Planning Team, is pleased to offer the following school emergency preparedness documents. These documents have recently been added to the Vermont School Crisis Guide and can be found at the Vermont School Safety Center’s website at http://schoolsafety.vermont.gov/planning
1. Home Visit Template – The Vermont School Crisis Planning Team urges schools at all levels to consider these guidelines when school personnel conduct home visits. Evidence shows that home visits can
benefit student outcomes significantly by strengthening relationships between families and schools. Safety for both the family and home visitors is an important part of engaging students and families in
strengths-based interventions. This form will help schools focus on important considerations for home visiting. Remember: Do not compromise staff or student safety.
2. CPR/AED Guidance – The Vermont School Crisis Planning Team updated the CPR/AED Guidance in July 2017. This provides school administrators and staff with the best and promising practices when
performing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) or utilizing an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) during a medical emergency.
3. The Vermont School Crisis Guide/Table of Contents – In response to requests from many of our school safety partners, the Vermont School Crisis Guide/Table of Contents was developed to provide an effective and efficient way of locating specific emergency preparedness documents within the Guide.
4. Family Reunification Guidance – The Standard Reunification Method provided by The I Love U Guys Foundation provides school administrators and crisis planning team members with proven
methods for planning, training and conducting a successful family reunification. For further family reunification planning resources, please see the Supervisory Union EOP Best-Practice Template in the
resource section of the guide.

5. Vermont School Safety Center Newsletter – This inaugural edition of the Vermont School Safety Center’s Newsletter is designed to inform our school safety partners of on-going and future school emergency
preparedness initiatives.
6. School Egress (evacuation) and Lockdown Drills – Vermont’s Agency of Education and the Vermont Division of Fire Service enhanced the school emergency preparedness drill schedule in August of 2016. The
Vermont Fire and Building Safety Code mandates that six egress (evacuation) drills and five lockdown drills be conducted during the 2017/2018 academic year.
7. 2017/2018 Vermont School Safety Calendar – As the coming school year begins, we recommend that school crisis planning team members refer to the 2017/2018 School Safety Training and Awareness Calendar for information about monthly school training initiatives. The training and exercise resources found on this calendar (What-If Wednesdays, Facilitated Dialogues, etc.) have been developed to ensure that school leaders have school safety learning opportunities to share with school crisis planning team members.
8. School Emergency Information Guide for Parents and Guardians – This guide is intended to provide recommended actions steps that can be taken by parents or guardians when informed of an emergency at
school.
