Announcement of the establishment of the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse (also known as the Federal Clearinghouse on School Safety Evidence-based Practices).

As you may be aware, the Clearinghouse was originally launched in February 2020 as an interagency effort by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Department of Education (ED), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to share actionable recommendations to keep school communities safe. The Clearinghouse publishes content on and maintains SchoolSafety.gov, which serves as a one-stop access point for the American public and school communities to find information, resources, guidance, and evidence-based practices on a range of school safety topics and threats. You can learn more about SchoolSafety.gov in the attached one pager.

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, signed into law in June of 2022, officially codified the Clearinghouse under federal law, with DHS serving as the administrator of the initiative. Within DHS, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) School Safety Task Force leads management, coordination, and engagement efforts on behalf of Clearinghouse and its website SchoolSafety.gov. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act requires the US Government to provide notification of the establishment of the Clearinghouse to relevant stakeholders. As the Governors’ Homeland Security Advisors and designated point of contact for the Department, please proceed to further distribute to your respective states homeland security agency, if that is not your office, as appropriate.

For additional information, please visit SchoolSafety.gov or contact our team at SchoolSafety@hq.dhs.gov. We look forward to continuing or beginning our work with you as well as with schools and districts in your state to strengthen the safety of our nation's schools.
