Swatting Resources for School Communities

Please click on the links below for online resources addressing swatting calls:

  • REMS TA (Department of Education) offers the State of Washington’s Swatting: Mitigation Strategies and Reporting Procedures.
  •
  • National 911 (911.gov) and National Emergency Number Association (NENA) published guidance in 2015 on swatting. It’s not directly K-12 focused, but there may be some good info for police departments or other responding officials that work with schools.
  •
  • Kentucky School Lockdown Workbook – while not entirely focused on swatting or hoax reports, this document does cover ‘Calming Strategies’ which may be useful for students to ‘come down’ after a lockdown situation. While this is for Elementary Schools, it may be a best practice for schools to consider for students post-event.
